Human Skin Rug

Lonesome Wyatt

Bubbles pop on the surface of the well
And a young girl falls to her knees and sings
A hollow, desolate song
She covers herself with a human skin rug
To keep the sadness at bay
La la la
La la da da dum

"Have a seat next to me," she calls down to the water
"It's terribly lonely and frightening here"
She touches the rim of the candy cane well
As she silently brushes her hair

"If you refuse my warm, friendly offer
I will be forced to devour your sugary soul
I know that you hear me, your ears are quite large
And your body is horrendously long"

She sits and she kicks at the colourful well
With her small black shoes of papier-mâché
Her hair grows terribly thin
As she sits here day after day

"Now, I am old, you filthy, dark well
But still you shine with your candylike gleam
I warned you, and warned you, so many times
Now, I shall eat you, for you have no more time"

She sticks out a sandpaper tongue
And starts to lick at the enemy well
The gleam of the candy rubs off
On a wrinkled, sad mouth
And suddenly, she notices a change
A change in her being
La la la
La la da da dum

The well is now dilapidated, old, and brick
While she is a young bright-shining raven
Perched on the crumbling side
Of a once-lovely well
La la la
La la da da dum
