Sending Up Timber

Well, I used to listen to my Grandma
As she knelt in a high-backed chair
She'd called out to the heavens
In a sweet old-fashioned prayer
She knelt and prayed for hours
And every time I asked her why
She said, "Child, I'm not just sending
Empty words up to the sky"

She said, "I'm sending up timber
To build my mansion
Getting it ready
To move on in
Laying my treasures
In the hands of the Builder
I'll be sending up timber
Until He comes again"

Well, the years have come and gone now
Since we laid her soul to rest
But I know my Grandma's mansion
Is one of heaven's best
Before she crossed old Jordan
The last thing I heard her say
Was build a firm foundation
With every prayer you pray
