Red Light Juliet 2: A Whole Haunting

Josh Eppard

[Verse 1]
I remember my Nanny told me: something used to pull on her
At night when she was sleeping, terrified under her covers
And when she finally got the nerve to pull 'em down and look
Felt like an eternity in the brief time that it took
And all she found was an empty room with no one there
Just the shadows and a slight chill in the air
And this would happen to her over and over again
Sometimes it pulled so hard it yanked her right out of her bed
And this was something, back then, that you’d keep to yourself
Especially because they'd question your mental health
So, she just kept it all balled up inside of her
Never told her parents 'cause she knew they wouldn’ta side with her
See, my Nanny came from a conservative family
And on more than one occasion had questioned her own sanity
I don't know if this is where it began
But I know all too well the shadows that had followed my Nan'

[Chorus] (x2)
Are you really just an energy that needs to be seen?
Are you the echo of a soul, of a reoccurring dream?
Is there a final destination? Are you a manifestation?
Are you really one of us on a different vibration?

[Verse 2]
I remember Mom told me: like, something used to watch her
When she was a little girl, she swore it was a monster
She slept with the light on, kept the door open
And hoped against hope that her Papa wouldn't close it
And as she grew older, so did the frustration
Even Nanny said it must've been in her imagination
Little did my Mom know, Nanny saw it too
And no adults could explain to her why the shadows moved
Standing at the foot of her bed, pulling her bed spread
As a teen she would stay at a girl's house instead
But it would follow her anywhere that she went
And when she finally did get sleep, it would be broken, intense
How do you tell someone something that just doesn't make sense?
And if you're sure that your reality is a fallacy?
Then you put a smile on and pretend to your family and friends
And pray to God with all your heart it doesn’t happen again

[Chorus] (x2)
Are you really just an energy that needs to be seen?
Are you the echo of a soul, of a reoccurring dream?
Is there a final destination? Are you a manifestation?
Are you really one of us on a different vibration?

[Verse 3]
I remember my brother told me that it happened to him too
And over time, we’d find its intensity grew
And as a kid, it comforted me that someone knew
The fear at night that had us both scared and confused
I remember waking up and all the lights were on
Joey's in the living room, clearly something frightened him
He told me point blank that it speaks, it said
"I’ll cut your throat if you try and scream" "What?
That's so human. Are you sure you weren't sleeping?"
The utter terror in his eyes, I swear that you could see it
"And it never spoke to me, well, other than my name
Which it would whisper in my ear when it would shake the bed frame"
And from that point on I questioned everything I did
Promised God I'd never listen to heavy metal again
I know it sounds silly, but really, if you knew the feeling
Sometimes it’d stand on the floor, sometimes on the ceiling
Sometimes it'd just watch and I could feel its presence, the very
Essence of evil inside my room, I regretted
Not telling Mom sooner, 'cause she told me the truth
The same thing had happened to her, but not since her youth
Now, I like to think that I am a rational man
Maybe there's a hereditary mental health condition
But as a matter of fact, I know it's really not that
'Cause I've had every test on my brain and, yet, still it comes back
Maybe there's a gateway, maybe there's more than one
'Cause sometimes I dream I breathe light as bright as the sun
The taste of metal still lingers on my tongue, and when I wake up
The shadows will be cast out by the love
Every family has their secrets, it is what it is
I never thought I'd be so casual about our visits
Over the years, I guess we've kinda gotten used to it
We gave a name to the dark: we call it Red Light Juliet

[Chorus] (x3)
Are you really just an energy that needs to be seen?
Are you the echo of a soul, of a reoccurring dream?
Is there a final destination? Are you a manifestation?
Are you really one of us on a different vibration?
