12:30am
[Intro]
Our musical guest tonight has a new project called "Searching The Signals"
He's here to perform a song from it on this completely made-up talk show
Ladies and gentlemen, Token Genius
[Verse 1]
It's 12:30 so I'm skimming through performances on late-night shows
It's awesome to see the stage lights glow
It ain't like those open mic nights at cafés and divebars
Often populated by beat poets and tryhards like me
I hear "In due time" if you try harder
I can't see the forest for the arbors in my yard
Wonder if these hosts will ever hold up my album artwork
Trapped in my thoughts when the skies begin to darken
When it gets late and there's nobody out there to talk to
I sift through this TV guide, the silence is just awful
Think of shows from better times and get nostalgic
My favorites from the late '90s, early aughts and onward
[Verse 2]
Back when I was a stranger youth
In the 'burbs my palate was outside of their painted views
Now they ask "Hey dude, what niche do you cater to?"
They'll figure it out like Summer Sanders made 'em do
Best believe I got the guts and the brains to make 'em care
Double dare you to say I ain't improved
Ever since I was a rugrat, the name's been true
You don't get it, I'll explain it all plainly, fool
See what's hidden between my temples could make me a legend
Like Olmec, oh yes, 'bout to shake up perception
I'm ready, I'm ready, aw, here it goes
Schemin' like Kenan and neither Kel nor these Zs can catch me, I'm gone
