Jonny Was A Friend Of Mine
Jonny was a friend that I had back when
We were just getting out of the blocks
We were both knee high to our innocence
And dreams were around the clock
We grew up on the edge of the cities haze
East of the 25
And though it only feels like yesterday
The time has a need to fly
And as I sit and wonder why it passes by
I know that Jonny was a friend of mine
The last time I heard Jonny he'd got out
Out there to see the sights
He made his way round the great big world
To see what he could find
And me I stayed around the same old town
With the new friends that I've found
We started up our own little band
And we got signed, we're still around
But as I think about new friends we find
I know that Jonny was friend a mine
Will we ever meet again? In an old familiar place
Sit around the shoot the breeze with babies on our knees
Heaven knows that days they come and the days they go
And some of them will slip our minds
But I'll never forget where I was the day
I heard that Jonny died
Not one dry eye in the house the day
That silence would fill our town
And no room to move in the church
The morning they laid Jonny down
And time it keeps on going
And won't wait for you and I
But I always will be happy knowing in my life
That Jonny was a friend of mine
Jonny was a friend of mine
Jonny was a friend of mine
Jonny was a friend of mine
Jonny was a friend of mine
