Crowded Streets of Blue
Years and years she looked for him
in crowded streets so blue
Patiently she traced his steps
and learned that he´d just left
A vision living in her veins
The elders singing tales
Within the shadow of these words
your beauty is to be found
She lived her life so recklessly
all soaked in liquid pain
Moving always restlessly
she never dared to stay
The morning sky did reach for him
so much she had to say
She could never give it up
his love was all she had
Then one silvery winter day
they said that he had wed
A lover from the underworld
with black hair thick as night
And all he touched turned into coal
How could he curse their love
The one she wants to give her all
was not the one to come
The Ancient mothers carried her
from coastline through the towns
Years and years still she did roam
as though she lost her heart
She danced for him into the night
and waved her silk of red
A feather fell out from the sky
as if it were a sign
Of all the cities in the world
she came back to the one
With nothing but her lovers words
she had to face the truth
What would she do with all of him
What would she have to say
With youth and beauty gone astray
she simply had to go
Then one late September day
They told hed left a note
Still my lady I am here
More settled in myself
I hear youre searching for someone
Somebody says its me
I have no gold nor property
My weary soul is all I am
No one knows how long she ran
Shes running to this day
And no one knows how long he sat
Hes waiting every day
And neither can break from the curse
They circle in the dark
And now and then there is a voice
Whispering: Stay, oh stay
Years and years she looked for him
In crowded streets so blue
Patiently she traced his steps
And learned that hed just left
A vision living in her veins
The elders singing tales:
Within the shadow of these words
Your beauty is to be found
