I'm Better Off

When I was a little boy my mother used to say
Keep on trusting in the Lord there’ll be a better day
My mother sang Amazing Grace like no one you ever heard
Daddy rode a sway back mule delivering the word

And I’m better off than I ever thought I would be
Than I thought I would be
Well momma cooked the sausage I never had enoug
My daddy said eat more bread boy cause things are getting rough
We were poor and that’s a fact but there’s one thing we had
My momma blessed with kindness and a bible totin’ dad

We had a preacher named McDuff that came into our town
He said old time religion is surly coming down
He said I’d be better off if I would just repent
Now I’m doing better cause down the isle I went
