Cardinals
I had a note it was all I could hum
I had a hint and I had a drum
Direct my paths, floor to hand, palm to sky
No touch and no reason why, at least that I could see
And I have known
And I have sunlight
And blooming lungs
And the voice of a leader
I floored myself too much
Piercing screams and poignant guns
Garnishing fear with a hint of preclusion
You take a drop and it well, it descends
And I have known
And I have sunlight
And blooming lungs
And the voice of a hero
Perilous fight, I jumped over a creek now
Holding my own as the last of my family, they all spoke too soon
If we held each other like perigee to the earth
Then maybe our breaths would amass a new timeline, reddened and bright
Cardinals pass, you wouldn’t have spotted them
Thank God I have not overheated quite yet
And I have known
And I have sown
And light and blooming lungs
And the voice of a hero
