The First Day of Winter

On the first day of winter
It was warm and still and grey
The dim sun reflected
Off the sugar factory
The east river rolled on silver and blue
And everything that day in my heart was you

You told me that you loved me
Then you sailed across the sea
Where the scenary's much different
Than what lies in front of me
Oil tanks line the river here
It smells like springtime in the air
But the forcast says cold days are near

I couldn't seem to shake the phrase
I heard an old friend say
"the sweetest face is the doubter
Who loves you anyway"
I fight myself to kill this fear
Repeating words i hope you'll hear
But i'm caught between each line my dear
