Women and the Rain
Twas on a cool November day
My true love was stolen away
He was a man of wealth
But a man of little else
And she fell for him
Just like the leaves
The rain came in ’45
The flood killed the corn
And the livestock died
I could have used a hand
But nobody gave a damn
And I was left alone
To brave the weather
Maybe I was blind
Maybe out of touch
I tried to save our money
But it was never much
I did all that a man could do
But I guess there’s two things
That never change
Women and the rain
Many came before me
Many still to come
The history of broken hearts
Is never really done
We all take on different lives
But in the end, the knife
Still cuts the same…
Women and the rain
Sometimes it’s hard to tell
If love is a gift from Heaven
Or a loan from Hell
When one disaster ends
Another one begins
And there ain’t a soul around
To share the pain
Women and the rain
