Taken

Jack Rootes

[Intro - Stick to Your Guns]

There's a story of a young man
Who was taken from his home
He missed his sister become a woman
And his father growing old
From the distance he watched his mother
Mourn a loss, all alone
And when he thinks about his brother
He can't seem to find the phone
(*Continues in BG of verses*)

[Verse 1 - Jack Rootes]

It was a cold night, early in September
A sad time for those that remember
On a barren street that was black and empty
Lay a poor soul, that was bloody and sweaty
His name was Lucas, he was 14 years old
Now he's dying, alone in severe cold
He was full of life that was taken away
By a simple thrust against his flesh with a blade

As he bled out, he wondered where he was headin'
If he closed his eyes, would he see the gates to Heaven?
Or would be consumed by the flames of Hell
Like his family told him with their games so well
Even though he wasn't supersitious
He silently started to pray for forgiveness
But deep down, he knew that it was too late
As the light behind his eyes began to fade

[Hook 1 - Stick to Your Guns]

From the window of his life he can see his home
As it passes by, he feels a pain no one knows

[Verse 2 - Jack Rootes]

Hoodie on, Lucas would walk around the streets
Looking for some chump change or some fresh meat
Stealing from who he found, disturbing the peace
Always on the run, away from the police
He would move about with a blade in his waist
He could kill a man dead and be blank in the face
Apathy in his soul, yeah it was abundant
For he cared not about the media's judgement

Only about some money so he can support himself
He wanted to survive, not to build up his wealth
He was a smart boy, he didn't want this
He hated hanging out with all of the other kids
But then, he felt like gang life was a no go
So he took himself away to live his life solo
However, after leaving, he wasn't safe
So his enemies struck him down like evil snakes

[Hook 2 - Stick to Your Guns]

Past every better judgement he packs his things to run away
Like an ocean distances a beast that can't be tamed

[Verse 3 - Jack Rootes]

But dear listener, he wasn't always that way
Many factors had led to that sad day
Home life was nothing to him but bare stress
'cause It seemed that his family cared less
Father left the family when he was a baby
Mother would drown herself in alcohol daily
Sister sold her body, just to keep the lights on
Brother out every night, eager to get a fight on

He was given such tough decisions
Wanted to escape, but he felt so imprisoned
So depressed, life had hardly any mad joy
Wasn't long until he hung out with the bad boys
A smart kid, logic was really there
But he was so bitter at a world that didn't care
Negative and toxic thoughts in his head
That plagued him until his tragic death
Damn

[Hooks 1 + 2]

From the window of his life he can see his home
As it passes by, he feels a pain no one knows
Past every better judgement he packs his things to run away
Like an ocean distances a beast that can't be tamed
