I can't fall in love with mountains
No matter how hard I try
I hate the distance between us
That 15 hour drive
I'm city bred, southside by design

Is just a 15 minute drive

I was the first kid who climbed up the back porch
You only visit on the holidays
I can only visit in the summer when you go away

I never stood a chance at 17

Was that I was always way off base
I took a 6 hour drive detour
Just to sneak into Butler's dorms
Now I'm 24, a long way off your back porch

I know that I dont say "I miss you" quite enough
You've known me for all these years
And I'm not good with that stuff
You've got your life now, so do I
I heard all about how you moved in with some guy

And I feel dumb when I tell her I miss her
Cuz she's in Denver
