David’s Encore (Outro)

Haych

Dee-dee-dee-
Hello puss, come to join us?
Stick your nose in here it'll light your-
It'll make you prick your ears up
"Hi Grandad"
Hi
"Grandad?"
Yes?
"D'you reckon you can give me
Your- your best piece of life advice?"
Oh, go on then
"No, I need your life advice"
Oh, my- uh, why? What d'you want me to tell ya?
I never made a lot of life choices myself
Things just happened to me
And- and I- I either coped with 'em or-
Or ducked away from 'em
Y'know I never-
I never had to, uh, particularly exert myself in- in any way
I mean, I say, I fell into my job
You see, the difference between me and a mate of mine
Who I was very close too
We went cycling and trainspotting together
I didn't really know what I wanted to do you see
"Yea"
So, I went up t'e careers advice office in Darwen
And, uh, she said "Well, there's this, this and this going"
One of which was- erm, post office telephones down' Blackburn
The other that, wu- sort of pick my intrest was Rolls Royce at Derby
But my mum said "Ooh, you're not going to Derby, wuurrhh"
You know, I mean, say, Mum ruled the roost at- at our house ("Yeah")
No mistake
Me and Grandma ha-ha-had a- err-er-er good relationship in the sense that
She accepted me going to university an-and her working ("Mhm")
"Yeah"
Her-er-er dad was pleased with me as a son-in-law
Because he thought "Well, if 'lads going to university
He'll be able to look after my daughter" sorta thing ("Yeah, yeah")
Yeah
I had a big choice when I we're 50; did I want to take redundancy?
Y'know we came here, we had a bit of err- we did a bit of work, Grandma especially
"Yeah"
She we're working full time, I we're only working part time
But we'd bought this house
When I wasn't working, I we're nockin' it to bits with things like this
"Yeah"
So, w-w-, y'know i've had a good life Henry, Ha-had no real disasters
"Good"
I-
"Ah, watch the spikes Clio" (Oi, be careful)
Yeah, that'll make your eyes water
My mum was still a bit annoyed at me for-, I wouldn't shave my beard off
Coz Grandma said, when-, y'know when- when we we're a bit younger
And I- I was in the situation where I could grow a beard, I was 19 ("Yeah")
Erm, she said "Will you grow a beard?", I says "Aye, alright"
And then my mum says "I hope you're getting that shaved off before you get married ("Yeah")
I said "Well, no actually because Joan was saying-
"That she liked it"
Yea
"Yeah
Y'know when you're courting at school it's a long time 'till you get married ("Yeah")
That's why I said, y'know "don't get too intimate"
But I-I-I-it's not a disaster if you see what I mean provided you both stick it out with one another
"Mhm"
So long as you- you get stuck into your work
Y-y-y-y-y-you stick together and you keep your nose clean
Really it would take something like a pandemic
"Oh"
Oh, right I know we've suffered one of them ("Yea")
"Yeah"
Y'know y-y'know i-it's also put the country on alert really because
"Yeah"
They know this thing can become not-, uh, literally a pandemic
Yea, "pan" means across
"Yea"
"Yeah
So it's-, uhh, effects the whole world
"Mhm"
Another bit of advice I would give you was
To buy something, save up first ("Mhm")
"Yeah"
Alright, I accept the fact that you gotta get a-a- get a house ("Mhm")
And that involves a loan, a mortgage ("Yea")
Our mortgage was only £535
"Like, a month?
Or, like in total"
No, yeah, in total"
"Wow, okay"
That's a-all we owed
We owed-, the house was only £775
"One and a half Switches"
Ye, yeah
So- an-and again the mortgage was only something like gineas a weak
£4.04- I can't remember whether my wage was £4.04 and threepence
Or my mortgage was £4.14 and threepence
"Okay"
But whatever it was
Whatever the mortgage was we always payed a five-£5
"Okay"
So, we'd been lucky in a way ("Yeah")
We-we-we've we-we-we-we've always felt we've spent our money wisely
"Yeah, definately"
So y-you've gotta- you've gotta keep on top of the money situation
Don't squander it, always try and think about-
Yea, alright i'm-i'm not saying "don't go on holiday"
But me an-, again rwhen-when, err, your mum an-and Lorraine
We're growing up, we didn't go on holiday every year
We only went every other year
"Mhm"
"And for three of those years
Which was a total, obviously, of six years, we went to Butlin's
And we'd-, y'know, we'd some fun
So y'know i-i-, getting ready to turn in my toes doesn't really bother me
"Yea, well it wouldn't would you?"
I-i think- I think y-y'know, uh-uh, the nearer you get
"Yeah"
The more you accept it
I know you've got your whole life ahead of your life in front of you
"Yeah"
Erm, but-
"It's Ju-just gonna happen isn't it?"
It is
"It's gonna happen to everyone (It is)
Yeah"
All I'm saying is think about your money
Don't squ- I mean, say, I knew a lad at redifussion at Preston
And he we're only an ordinary working lad
He we're only one o' wiremen
He-he-he weren't one o' bosses
He came home from work and there'd be a pile o' parcels on't doorstep
"Yeah"
Coz his wife had ha- got' catalouge out and been ordering stuff
"Yeah"
An-and they couldn't afford it
"Yeah, okay, yeah"
I-I-I don't know what you'd do if-if, y'know
If y'ha- y'had a young-ish wife and two kids
An-and your wife died that would be a real tragedy
Because...
"Yeah, definatley yeah"
Erm y-you'd be tryna keep too many plates up in the air at the same time
"Mhm"
You'd have to have a job and yet you wanna look after your kids
"Yeah"
So, y'know, circumstances like that, you can't help it
You've just gotta cope best you can
"Yeah, definatley"
Assuming y-y-you're so-, you're still so young that, err, Mum and Dad are still around
"Mhm"
Erm, you could get a lot of help of them, I'm sure they would
"Yeah"
But you can't guarentee it
"Mhm"
Like we said, we don't know when the-, when you're gonna get the call
"Mhm"
Alright?
"Alright"
Right, I'm gonna have to explain a problem to Mum and Dad here, I'm afraid
"Alright, than-"
There's nothing in that box, love
""Alright, okay""
It's like the empty bucket
""Ah""
"Thank's Grandad"
Okay, no trouble, lad, anytime
"Alright"
Right, now-
