I Can Hear the Darkness

Donna Washburn, Leon Russell

I can hear the darkness falling
Softly singing songs of sadness
Searching for a silent silhouette
Then I see low voices calling
Children in their candy castles
Crying crystal clowns they can't caress

But the touch of love surrounds me more
As magic music mingles
In a race of movement mixed within my mind
And the eyes can't feel the pain inside
Or frame a dying, fighting friend
Who falls so fast from freedom she devised

If I could love her anymore I don't know how
I'll never, never have a heart like now
If I could find that little key that fits her mind
The answers are so hard for her to find

Walk along among the clouds
Which quiet and groovy gardens guard
And with the gratitude of glitter games
And my feet can see the path below
I bow and wander boldly
With the broken, melted boxes of my brain

If I could find that little key that fits her mind
The answers are so hard for her to find

Walk along among the clouds
Which quiet and groovy gardens guard
And with the gratitude of glitter games
