All Natural
Mama said
“Son, don’t you
Chew them weeds
One dog’s dead
And the other one’s blind”
Opened my mouth
Dropped to my knees
My medulla split open
Like like a melon rind
Mama said
“Son, don’t you sip that sap
Your daddy had some
And he never got right”
Made a straw from the quill
Stick in my cap
Suddenly it’s hailing
Purple chunks of light
Listen to what
Your mama says
Or you might
End up like me
Digging though the dirt
For some chubby grubs
And living in a hollow tree
Mama said
“Son, don’t you
Smoke that bark
The devil’s all in it
Better heed my words”
Loaded up my corncob
Struck a spark
Now I’m conversating
With the pretty birds
Mama said
“Son, don’t you lick that frog
The color of his skin
Mean please beware”
Waggled my tongue
Like a hungry hog
Now Jehovah’s smiling at me
From a flaming chair
Listen to what
Your mama says
Or you might
End up like me
Naked as the day
That I hit the air
And living in a hollow tree
