It All Matters After All (Bus Driver 2)

So, today it’s 40 years since I first pulled out of here
I always knew there’d come a day I’d have to pump the brakes
I love this job, I loved every morning stop
And every single story I picked up along the way
It went fast and it went slow, was a long, long way to go
But trust me when I tell you, good things come to those who wait
Charles and Judith never did, not one middle school kid
’Cause I always showed up right on time, oh I was never late
It may not sound like much
But you never know the lives you touch
By nothing more than showing up
Even on the days you feel so small
Oh, it turns out it all matters after all
I’ve probably been to Sao Paulo, a thousand times to San Antone
If you add up all the circles that I drove around this town
Guess I didn’t get far but I never hit a car
And everybody got where they were going safe & sound
It may not sound like much
But you never know the lives you touch
By nothing more than showing up
Even on the days you feel so small
Oh, it turns out it all matters after all
I used to look around and just see strangers crowding in and out
A means to an end
But I can see it all now
I’ve always had the best seat in the house to see where we’ve been
And see just how far we’ve come together
Sheet cake on paper plates, Judith’s family came
I dropped her off at her last stop, I guess it’s been a year
Now gathered in this place on my very last day
A few sweet souls in orbit and the bus that brought us here
And, that may not sound like much
But you never know the lives you touch
Just by always showing up
Even on the days you feel so small
Oh, it turns out it all matters
You know it really matters
Oh yes, it all matters after all
