Woodland Virgins
Artemis kissed us with lips that were vicious
Hungry for virgins in the heart of the woodland
She armed us with sickles
Those rusty blades spun
Cutting thin strands
Paving a path for us
Rain covered the fields on the first day of Autumn
All was revealed as the wet grass had softened
The children arose in a military line
Pulling the ropes which the wild things climb
I was there in the trees when you captured me
An axe in your hand
I landed in a bed of leaves
And that were I'll be as you move to pursue me
The night sky
Has opened it's eyes
To spy on it's child
The lightning struck through the bark of The Great Tree
Forsythia leaned over blood veins in the stream
The pussy willow leaned to peak at the scene
Of your tattered brown dress dangling from a thorn
We scampered across the hollowed logs in our clogs
Awakening bears
Your hair poured out like the thistledown
But your heart was heavy
I felt your chest
It felt like dirt
It felt like Earth
Surrounding me
I was there in the trees when you captured me
With strength in your legs to chase me to the clearing
And that's where I'll be as Mt. Cynthus starts to divide
And relinquish it's grip on her slaves
The trees will hide us
The cool wind will guide us
And we'll wrestle like foxes
Til the branches get excited
The waxing and waning
Slopes of your body
Hung bare beneath the moonlight
Kept warm inside a flannel blanket
I'm a secret agent
Venturing under the covers
And I'm smothered in your legs
And I can't see anything
Except your eyes
They glow in the dark
And the grow when the magic starts to write
