Inferno

The darkness seems to cloud the light
I wonder if the past can be blamed for all of that
But it seems, nostalgia fills my heart
Ambition giving way to what I have left behind

Maybe light is breaking through the dark
The days of old, they seem to wind and unfold
To the streets on which my life was made
Who needs ambition when I've got memories

But somewhere in those days, lies and ever-present flame
Meant to rekindle a sacred, precious melody

They say there's no tomorrow, no forever we must chase
Then in the past, I cling and laugh cuz who would need today?
For everything that shines so bright is finite, burning out
So I walk on into this inferno
Maybe, please just maybe then my fire will burn out

Then again, what does the question mean?
I never understood why the "why" ever came
If the dream is to just live in peace
Then why is the curiosity rising again?

Can I taste this present suffering?
Learn to like the bitterness and possibly, the sweet
Keep the memories just as they are
And set them all ablaze, ignore the scarring

I run towards that light
As my blood begins to boil
I can start to see the memories, they writhe and moan
The time is overdue, to start fresh, begin anew
But the questions still grow stronger than the fire I've made

They say there's no tomorrow, no forever we must chase
I cry away the notion that this all could end today
A heart that's full of helium will slowly pass away
But that's not me! I will scream till my lungs give out
Life is like a fountain, I believe it won't run out

My time while here has not been all fine
Love lost and broken, won't heal with time
Intelligence, my mind cannot find
Withering as I try

But this darkness can't blot out the light

As a child, I raised my hands, held tightly to
The magic of our youth
I treasured everything, but in the fire, it goes
They say there's no tomorrow, no forever we must chase
So I walk on into this inferno
Maybe, please just maybe then my fire will burn out
