Remain Human

Blaze Dugger

Something is different
Something has changed
Something has shifted
I feel strange
I see it in the clouds at night
I feel it in the wind
I see it in the damndest places
I feel it creeping in
And it comes to me
In the single street light above a storage unit on the way home
And I see it
And it teases me
in the ambulance in front of the Lutheran church on 13th street
And it's there in the little girl practicing trumpet on her front porch across the street
And it feels normal
And it greets me at the doorway
And it breathes into my mouth
In my dreams I'm screaming "more weight"
As the tower is falling down
And the air gets thinner
And warmer in the shade of my front maple
And I hang there
And I'm flying higher
To a place I've only wished existed once before
And it's paradise to me
But inevitably I wake up
And hope that it stays
