The Wall of Sleep
Shapeless, shifting void
The sanctum of the weary and the paranoid
A source of untold fears helpless to observe
Beyond my understanding my
Own soul's unnerved with music to my ears
Summoned now in rest
Both foolish and enlightened
Are unkindly blessed to witness the obscure
Fleeting glimpse of death
The horrors still consume me
With my every breath
A specter's scar so pure
Running wild in the night
In our dreams we take flight
But where to do we run
When the nightmare's begun
Are these faces of mine
Or do they hide behind the sleeping surface
Keys to know the unknown
Every life, every stone
But what soul pays the cost
When you learn from the lost
What await's in the dark
If you dream with a spark
To invite a disturbance
What horrors have I dreamt of
Will I shudder if I stare
Am I strong enough to transcend
Am I brave enough to dare
Is my fragile psyche faded
Have I sunken to the deep
The forbidden world allures me
Beyond the wall of sleep
