Dismissive

Alex Slentz

I caught another one
Hook line and sinker
He'll be spending time with me
But only thinking of her

They catch feelings so quick
Only ever a few days in
They think that I can change them
But give it two weeks, they'll be over it

I wear myself like a warning sign
Being this mean keeps them away most of the time
But honestly, I wouldn't mind
If someone stayed behind

Wondering why I'm never long term
Because I never seem to learn
Picking out the worst doesn't mean it won't hurt
It just ends up more embarrassing
Wondering why I'm preparation
For the women they'll end up with
Changing them for the better
While all I get is compared to her

I hit him up early in the day
Just to get it out of the way
He'll reply so dismissive
When did he become uninterested

I'll look at her and all I can see
Are all the flaws I see in me
I know I shouldn't look at her like that
But I just want what she has

Keep them wrapped around her finger
Pretty and slim and more unique than
I could ever fathom to be
She's perfect in ways I cannot compete

Wondering why I'm never long term
Because I never seem to learn
Picking out the worst doesn't mean it won't hurt
It just ends up more embarrassing
Wondering why I'm preparation
For the women, they'll end up with
Changing them for the better
While all I get is compared to her

I'll be used as free therapy
Emotional labor for the emotionally weak
And all I can think about
Is how I should speak

Up when I have the chance
Let them know they don't understand
But I know they'd leave me behind
The first chance they can

So I'll suffer in silence and watch them
Get better from all my efforts
Be a better man to her
Be what she deserves

Wondering why I'm never long term
Because I never seem to learn
Picking out the worst doesn't mean it won't hurt
It just ends up more embarrassing
Wondering why I'm preparation
For the women, they'll end up with
Changing them for the better
While all I get is compared to her
